The Government have invested a large amount of money to improve access to talking therapies such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and counselling for people with depression and anxiety disorders.  Involving Essex are working in partnership with NHS Mid Essex to create a User Reference Group for people who are receiving medication for depression and/or anxiety to help shape the new Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services - available from April 2009. In mid Essex, over the next three years, 40 therapists will be trained to offer psychological therapies to the local population. One of the aims of the new service is to ensure that no one has to wait more than 28 days to start treatment.
Who are the best people to help shape how the new service should be developed and delivered? The people who are going to be using them; this could be you! The amount of involvement will be totally up to you; from online forums and questionnaires to meeting up as a focus group - it’s up to you.  30,000 of these cards have been printed and will be distributed with prescriptions from pharmacies in mid Essex and available in GP surgeries.
